OGDEN – Gilbert K. Wallace “Gib” died of heart failure on Sunday morning October 24, 2010 on his way home from church.

He was born in Salt Lake City on May 17, 1924 to Gilbert and Melissa Kimball Wallace. He was raised in Salt Lake, graduating from East High and the University of Utah.

Gilbert’s childhood sweetheart, Sidney Jean Nielson, became his eternal companion on April 18, 1944.

He served with the U.S. Navy on the Battleship Nevada during the second World War. His entire engineering career was spent with the Bureau of Reclamation working on the Weber Basin Project.

Gilbert and Sidney raised a family of six kids, who were extremely lucky to have been born into such a loving and fun family. Gib was a Scoutmaster for 11 years, during the time that his five sons were scouts, and he touched many young lives. He loved to explore new roads and camp, and took his family and scouts on many adventures.

Gilbert retired young and then became busier than ever. He volunteered his time to the Ogden Trails where he engineered and helped build many of the trails that are enjoyed today around the Ogden area.

He loved genealogy and spent many hours researching his ancestors and doing temple work. He spent many years working in the Ogden Family History Center. Most of all, Gilbert was a devoted servant of his Savior, Jesus Christ. He held many positions in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and loved them all. He and Sidney served a mission to New York, New York in 1989. He also sang in the choir his whole life. He loved to serve all he knew and never said “no”. He was active in his callings and vital to the end.

He is survived by his six children, Anne (Dean) Wiese, Kimball (Mary) Wallace, Richard (Carolyn) Wallace, Brian (Wendy) Wallace, Joel (Leeanne) Wallace and Bob (Peggy) Wallace; 47 grandchildren and 62 great-grandchildren.




Our Grandpa Wallace will be missed so much...we love him and feel blessed to have been able to spend so much time with him. He was always so kind, never spoke poorly of anyone, knew every one of his 120+ children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren by name and birthday, loved building the perfect trail, and served diligently his entire life. Thanks for the kitchen table talks, the cookies, the juice, the laughs, the b-ball games, the Birdsong and many more, and always having a smile and great attitude...goodbye Grandpa, we love you-
